Charles Foster-Hall graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in microbiology and immediately set out to paint watercolours around the world, initially driving around France in a used London taxicab that served as a mobile studio. He has painted and exhibited throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia, spending several years in Paris, Kyoto and New York City. In July 2010, just months before the Arab Spring, he was invited to paint in Yemen along with a small group of other European artists and subsequently organized exhibitions of the work produced there at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the Royal Geographical Society in London.
