Polly Street Webb (1822-1883) was the daughter of John Leland Webb and Annis Hammond of Bradford County, Pennsylvania. In 1841, she married prosperous farmer Virgil S. Vincent. They had three sons. Another miniature of Polly Vincent, also by James Reid Lambdin, is in the collection of the Yale University Art Gallery. James Reid Lambdin (1807-1889,) when only twenty, was called by William Dunlap "the best painter on the western side of the Alleghenies." A native of Pittsburgh, in 1823, Lambin traveled to Philadelphia to study with Edward Miles and Thomas Sully. He worked in Natchez and Louisville before settling permanently in Philadelphia in 1837. Lambdin was an officer of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where he exhibited from 1824-1868, and an Honorary Member of the National Academy of Design.
