Meg Wendy – Founder of NewFocusOn.com
Promoter of Art & Antiques Shows for a Lifetime!
Meg has been around the "show business" side of the arts and antiques business her entire life. An industry leader and innovator, Meg understands the changes necessary to give new life to the business she and so many others love– while introducing this wonderful "world" to new people in a friendly and easy way using the internet. Her experience, knowledge and contacts come from a lifetime of involvement and passion.
After college, Meg worked at IBM for two years before joining her mother, Diane Wendy. Beginning in 1979, the "Wendy Shows", promoted as many as 18 shows a year, including 30 years at the 7th Regiment Armory on Park Avenue & 67th Street, now called the Park Avenue Armory. In fact, the company held shows at just about every major venue in New York: The New York Coliseum, The 34th Street Armory, The 26th Street Armory, The Javits Center, The Sacred Heart School and St. Ignatius Loyola.
The mother/daughter team also produced shows in cities outside of New York City including White Plains, NY, Greenwich, Ct., Stamford, Ct., Morristown, NJ, Chicago, Il., Boston, Ma., Washington, DC and Charleston SC.
In 1988, Meg went to work for Brandeis University's New York fundraising office. Returning to the family business, Meg used her experience at Brandeis to add fundraising opportunities for charities and at the same time bringing new clients to the shows. Charities benefiting from Wendy Shows included KiDS of NYU Foundation, The Boys Club of New York, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, NY, Project A.L.S., The Sacred Heart Schools- Greenwich, Ct., New York City and Chicago, The Solomon Schechter School(NJ), UJA, The American Heart Association and The Morris Museum.
As early as 2000, Meg saw dramatic changes in the economy and peoples' tastes. Recognizing the need for new ways to energize the shows, she began building relationships with dealers from Europe and in 2002, introduced her first vetted show, The Spring International Art & Antiques Show . In 2005, Meg introduced the exciting and innovative, New York Design Fair - mixing and matching antiques with modern and contemporary furnishings and art.
The economic crisis in 2008 made it clear that the world had changed forever and that going forward, the industry would have to adapt to these changes. Meg left “show business” to begin the work that is now NEWFOCUSON.COM – an online showcase for jewelry, art, design, antiques and travel. For Meg, the internet is an extension of all she knows from promoting shows, tailored for today’s web-based global audience. The site is a place to bring buyers and sellers together; to provide industry news and an events calendar with shows, auctions and exhibitions; interesting content and dealer profiles. A “forum” for people to share ideas is planned for the near future.
Travel related stories create an “experience” and a “connection.” This approach introduces a fresh way of looking at jewelry, art, design and antiques to people already interested and helps new people understand the passion that comes with “collecting” and the “hunt”…no matter how big or small! All we know now about jewelry, art and design – comes from somewhere! That “somewhere” can be across the ocean or around the block!
Easy to navigate and attractively presented, NewFocusOn.com is for everyone! A place to shop! A place to learn! A place to have fun!!
When she’s not working, Meg enjoys spending time with her family and friends, stitching, pilates, cooking and travelling. She is a member of the KiDS of NYU Foundation Board of Directors. Close >
