July 12, 2013  |

Solstiss, world renowned lace manufacturer, based in Caudry, France is thrilled to have collaborated on the much anticipated Hollywood epic adaptation of The Great Gatsby. The Warner Bros. film, is directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan.

Catherine Martin, a 2X Academy and Tony Award winner for Production and Costume design called on Solstiss to create the embellished and plain lace, which is a key stylistic element for the transformation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s characters onto the big screen. Solstiss produced about 1,400 meters of lace for the film, featuring 210 unique patterns selected by Catherine Martin and her team. The film features Solstiss geometric and floral lace hand-embellished with crystals, paillettes, ribbons, feathers and metallic beading, creating an authentic Art Déco sensibility and transporting us to America during the Roaring 20’s. The Solstiss delicate, dream-like chantilly laces adorn the film’s leading ladies and evoke a time of romanticism, glamour and decadence!

About Solstiss
The Solstiss story dates back to 1879, in Northern France, when the ancestors of today’s directors founded a Leavers lace mill. Leavers lace is a lace technique intricately woven on Leavers Looms: the mechanical invention of an Englishman who sought to replicate the delicate movements of the lacemaker’s fingers in the early 19th century. Solstiss currently produces on 90 looms, dedicated to the weaving of specialty laces for Fashion, Bridal, Couture, Lingerie and Furnishings collections.

A clear leader in the design and production of Leavers lace, its latest creations blend fine traditional techniques with cutting edge innovation and new methods of embellishment. Solstiss has a dedicated team of hand-beaders and designers to create new patterns each season as well as custom projects. Solstiss is also the proud manufacturer of the lace for royal weddings, adorning the gowns worn by Kate Middleton (April 2011) and Grace Kelly (April 1956). In 2011, Solstiss was awarded the illustrious label, Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant. Translated as Living Heritage Company, or EPV, this label is a mark of recognition from the French State, to reward French firms for the excellence of their traditional and industrial skills.
