Asian Art Week at Christie's New York March 2011

Christie's New York celebrates the best of Asian art and includes property from the James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection and magnificient Qing Monochromes and earlier works of art from the Gordan Collection.

Christie’s New York Asian Art Week will run from March 22-25 2011, featuring remarkable works which exemplify rarity and beauty, with many highlights offered from dedicated private collections such as Property from the James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection and the Magnificent Qing Monochromes and Earlier Works of Art from the Gordon Collection. The sales commence March 22 with Property from the James and Marilynn Alsdorf Collection, and Indian and Southeast Asian Art, followed by South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art and Japanese and Korean Art on March 23, Magnificent Qing Monochromes and Earlier Works of Art from the Gordon Collection on March 24, and conclude with Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art including Property from the Arthur M. Sackler Collections on March 24-25. With over 1,500 lots offered in total, Asian Art Week is expected to realize in excess of $55 million.

In conjunction with Asian Art Week, Christie’s will mount a rare presentation of one of 20th century China’s most distinctive artists, in the special exhibitionThe Beauty of Art: An Exhibition of Paintings and Calligraphy by Shi Lu in the Private Collection of Robert Hatfield Ellsworth.  Featuring forty paintings and calligraphy, which are presented for viewing only and are not for sale, The Beauty of Art will be shown March 15-31 in Christie’s Gallery 7 at 20 Rockefeller Plaza, Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
